Certification and Licensing Requirements for Missouri Accountants

Those who earn accounting degrees in Missouri may want to look into becoming Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). Federal law requires anyone who files reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission to hold a CPA license, and many employers seek out candidates who have this licensure according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Graduates of accounting schools in Missouri with 150 semester hours of postsecondary study and a bachelor's degree or higher may be eligible to take the CPA exam, according to the Missouri State Board of Accountancy. Additionally, license applicants must also have one year (at least 2,000 hours) of professional accounting experience. Once the license is issued, it must be renewed every three years. CPAs must complete 120 hours of continuing education, with at least six hours in ethics, every three years in order to keep the license current.

For more details on CPA licensing requirements in Missouri, contact the Missouri State Board of Accountancy.
