Certification and Licensing Requirements for Louisiana Accountants

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, accountants who file reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission must be Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). Individuals who graduate with accounting degrees in Louisiana may also choose to become certified with the goal of attracting clients or possibly enhancing job prospects.

Louisiana's State Board of Public Accountants details requirements for prospective CPAs in the state. In order to become a certified public accountant in Louisiana, applicants must have completed 150 hours of college credit, with 24 hours of education in accounting and 24 hours of business studies. They must also pass the CPA examination and have at least one year of experience under a qualified CPA. Other requirements include a character evaluation and proof of residency.
