Certification and Licensing Requirements for Kentucky Accountants

Accountants usually need at least an undergraduate degree in accounting or a related field, according to the Bureau of labor Statistics (BLS). Nationwide, accountants who have earned professional acknowledgment, specifically as CPAs, are likely to enjoy stronger career opportunities. Accountants who file reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission are required to hold a CPA license.

The Kentucky Board of Accountancy outlines the current requirements for CPAs. In order to apply for a Kentucky CPA license, one must satisfy the education requirement of 150 college semester hours, pass the Uniform CPA Examination, and complete one year of experience in an accounting or auditing position in public practice, industry, academia or government.

For those interested in the accounting profession, individuals are encouraged to further research the state's requirements for accountants and contact an admissions counselor to discuss their options.
