Certification and Licensing Requirements for Indiana Accountants

Although a CPA license is not an essential requirement to work in the accounting field, it does increase one's job prospects, according to research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In Indiana, aspiring CPAs must pass the Uniform CPA Exam and meet a number of other requirements, according to the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy.

Educational requirements that exam applicants must meet include completion of a bachelor or graduate degree at an accredited university and at least 150 semester hours of education. Applicants must also have completed at least 24 semester hours in accounting at the undergraduate level or at least 15 hours at the graduate level and at least 24 semester hours in non-accounting business courses. The Indiana CPA Society states that individuals must complete 24 months of full-time work experience before applying for a license.
